Plant Manager - Construction
Carrowhugh recruitment is currently recruiting for a Plant Manager for a busy and well established civils contractor to work in their offices based in East London. The responsibility of the Plant Manager will be to ensure that the plant-holding is maintained to a high standard and meets all regulatory and compliance standards; both in terms of equipment quality and operation. Additionally, the fleet should demonstrate the professional approach of the company and be appropriate to the diverse requirements of the Group.
The Plant Manager is responsible for both non-mechanical and mechanical plant, the safe operation of the yard and workshops and the management of both workshop and mobile fitters.
·To ensure that all Plant is properly maintained and in a safe working condition (when sent to site) and is compliant with all relevant legislation/regulation with available certificates as required.
·To provide specialist advice for purposes of work winning or specific site requirements.
·To ensure optimum utilisation of Plant equipment and offer advice and recommendations to the Plant Director on additions and disposals.
·To oversee the safe and efficient working arrangements in the workshops and yard and ensure that fitters and plant operatives receive the appropriate training and have the requisite qualifications.
·To carry out regular stock checks and ensure appropriate systems are in place to prevent fraud, misappropriation or misuse.
·To oversee the processes around asset disposals and overall safeguard the Company in this respect. In addition to report all losses, thefts or damages to the Plant Director and manage these in line with Company procedures,
·To provide management reports and participate in management meetings as directed by the Plant Director.
·To maintain all records in line with the Company Management Systems.
·To keep fully abreast of all relevant Health & Safety legislation and ensure awareness through the company.
·To oversee purchases of parts and consumables.
- To establish relationships and trading arrangements with reputable providers of hired plants as well as plant and spares/parts suppliers.
Skills (Hard Skills & Soft Skills)
·Fully cognizant of health & safety legislation and holder of CPC, etc.
·Strong technical experience and knowledge of Plant, both mechanical and non-mechanical.
·IT knowledge and experience of Plant systems, specifically Syrinx.
·Strong interpersonal skills including management of a skilled workforce.
·Knowledge of transport, both legal and technical.
·Broad understanding of plant, transport and operator legal requirements.
·Up to date knowledge of HSEQ standards and best practice.
·Hands on and flexible; key as part of a small team.
·Broad knowledge of current (and upcoming) legislation regarding plant including environmental and health & safety aspects.
·5 years' experience operating in the Plant Manager role
·Ability to remain calm under pressure.
·Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with clients and colleagues.
·Assertiveness and confidence to stop any operations that appear unsafe or contrary to good engineering practice.
·Willingness and a proven ability in developing and mentoring others.

HEALTH & SAFETY
•The post holder must fully familiarise themselves with the Health & Safety Policy and Procedures.
•Assist senior management in monitoring and reviewing the policy and procedures in respect of revisions to safety legislation, changes to industrial practice, changes to the Company's size and role and any other factors which may affect or influence the policy.
•The post holder must be aware of individual responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary, any untoward accident or incident.
•Always maintain own personal safety with particular regard to adherence to safe systems of work and proper use of safety equipment and PPE.
